JUNE 29, 2016. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tree of Life Heritage Foundation, in partnership with William Shatner and Melis Productions, is pleased to announce the creation of Mitzvah Horses, William Shatner's hippotherapy (therapeutic horse therapy) program for disabled adults, children, and veterans in Israel. Mitzvah Horses will literally bring miracles into the lives of physically, mentally and emotionally challenged Israelis---Jewish, Christian, Druze and Muslim--in an effort to "repair this broken world."

Major contributors ($100k or more) will be invited to join Mr. Shatner (and Rabbi Saydman) on an inaugural tour of the Mitzvah Horses hippotherapy locations in Israel. The benefits of riding for those with disabilities have been recognized for over 3,000 years, since the time of Hippocrates. Therapeutic riding has been widely used since the early 1950s as a tool for improving the lives of people with disabilities. Individuals with almost any cognitive, physical and/or emotional disability can benefit from therapeutic riding, driving, vaulting, competition or other purposeful, safe and supervised interaction with horses. Veterans have especially been helped with hippotherapy.
Hollywood star William Shatner has a long history of supporting therapeutic riding in the United States. As celebrity spokesperson for Mitzvah Horses, he is connecting with his Jewish roots and looking to make a difference in Israel in the lives of children of all ethnicities, religions and nationalities. Partnering with Tree of Life Heritage Foundation, we will raise funds for all of the participating riding centers in Israel, and provide scholarships for disabled children, adults, and veterans from all walks of life.
Individuals with the following disabilities commonly participate and benefit from equine-facilitated therapy and activities:
• Muscular Dystrophy • Cerebral Palsy • Autism • Visual Impairment • Down Syndrome • Brain Injuries • Developmental Disabilities • Multiple Sclerosis • Spina Bifida • Emotional Disabilities • Amputations • Spinal Cord Injuries • Learning Disabilities • Attention Deficit Disorder • Hearing Impairment • Cerebral Vascular Accidents (CVA) • Stroke
